Boost your immune system with one easy green smoothie

This smoothie recipe has been created to have the biggest immune boosting punch a green smoothie can give!

Here’s a run down of some of the ingredients and what’s in them that’s so good for you (quantities & recipe further down):

Spinach

Rich in vitamin C, anti-oxidants and beta-carotene. Helps regenerate cells, high mineral content helps immune system to function properly, aids digestion and mood.

Kiwi

A good dose of anti-oxidants and heaps of vitamin C

Blueberries

The berry that has it all - fibre, vitamins, antioxidants, good for brain and memory aid, studies have shown can lower blood pressure

Pineapple

Bromelein – reduces inflamation, breaks down plaque in blood

Ginger

Seen as the firestarter - reduces inflammation, fights germs, stimulates digestion and circulation

Greek or natural yoghurt

Packed with protein and probiotics, to start getting your insides back to normal. Make sure to choose one that contains live bacteria or cultures in the ingredients.

Cinnamon

Anti-inflammatory, helps to regulate blood sugar levels, helps fight bacterial infections

Almonds

High vitamin E content helps protect liver, fat content supports the detoxifcation

Sunflower seeds

Contains phosphorous, magnesium, and vitamins B-6 and E, important for the function of the immune system

Avocado

Contains glutathione - a powerful antioxidant associated with immune system health, needed for the lymphoid cells

METHOD & QUANTITIES

Makes 1 large or two smaller green smoothies, depending on liquid added.

Ingredients

SPINACH - large handful (washed)

KIWI - half - without skin

BLUEBERRIES - 8 to 10

PINEAPPLE - equivalent of about one pineapple ring 1 cm thick

GINGER - 1/2 teaspoon, grated fresh

GREEK OR NATURAL YOGHURT - Tablespoon

CINNAMON - 1/4 teaspoon

ALMONDS - 4 or 5 (unsalted)

SUNFLOWER SEEDS - pinch (unsalted)

AVOCADO - a tablespoon, approx 1/5th of an avocado

Put all ingredients in your blender. Add filtered water to taste - less filtered water means thicker smoothie. More filtered water means more watery smoothie. Start with less as you can always add more.

Whizz up.

Pour into glass.
